10 reasons that tourists are attracted in Vietnam

1. Street Food

The best place to eat in Vietnam is on little, plastic stools on the sidewalk. Eating on the street is by far the most exciting and accessible way to truly experience daily life in Vietnam, and it’s also where you’ll find the best food. Street food is everywhere in Vietnam. At any hour of the day, you’ll find Vietnamese people of all ages congregating under market awnings or outside store fronts, chewing down and enjoying each other’s company. Whether it’s noodle soups, like the iconic pho or bun ca, or bun cha char-grilled pork served over rice noodles with herbs and dipping sauces the street food in Vietnam is nothing short of amazing.

2. Coffee

Think of coffee and you will probably think of Brazil, Colombia, or maybe Ethiopia. However, as the second biggest producer of coffee in the world, It therefore comes as no surprise that I love Vietnam – a country that takes its coffee very seriously. Coffee often seems to be the lifeblood of Vietnam — well, along with beer, tea, rice and pho. Vietnamese coffee is certainly known for being strong, and is perhaps an acquired taste for many — whether a coffee connoisseur or just someone who likes a shot of caffeine in the morning. You really can’t walk far without the tempting aroma of coffee greeting your nostrils, and a hit of the particularly strong brew is enough to keep you going for hours.

If you like your coffee black then ask for cafe den, but if you prefer a bit of sweetness and creaminess you’ll want cafe sua; this comes with a shot of condensed milk in the bottom of the cup or glass, so be sure to give it a good stir before drinking. If you want milk but no sugar, you will probably be out of luck. Both are available as nong (hot) or da (with ice). Some places will serve it ready percolated, but at other joints you’ll be given the cup with a mini cafetiere perched on top and have to wait for the hot water to drip through. There are various other coffee options including cafe trung (with egg) and cafe sua chua (with yoghurt) …

3. Fresh Seafood

Fresh Seafoods

One of the most extraordinary things about the markets in Vietnam is that the food doesn’t smell at all. You’ll walk into the food section and see freshly caught fish, snails, crabs and prawns and brace yourself for a fishy smell. But because the fish you see in the market was caught just a few hours ago, you won’t smell a thing. We swear.

4. Fresh Vegetables and Fruits

You might not recognize all the vegetables you’ll find in Vietnam, but you should try them all. From bitter melon to morning glory, the vegetables go into everything from shredded salads like green papaya salad to stir-fries. Like all the other food you’ll find in Vietnamese markets, everything is super fresh.

Fresh Vegetables and Fruits

Don’t be alarmed if you see spiky fruits you can’t identify. It could be a durian, dragon fruit or rambutan and they’re all worth a try. (Be warned: durians smell like feet and are not for the faint of heart.) You’ll also find mangos, papayas, mangos teens, jack fruit and a fleshy fruit with a bumpy green skin called custard apples, among more familiar fruits like pineapples, bananas and watermelons.

5. Fresh Herbs

Fresh Herbs

Fresh herbs are essential to Vietnamese cuisine; their flavors and perfumes enliven countless foods. The crisp, refreshing addition of these herbs and greens cuts salt and fat and brings levity to some of the heavier dishes. Used as garnishes or wraps, herbs also serve as great palate cleansers and most of all, they make food really fun to eat. Pinched off their stems or chopped, raw leaves are tucked into rice paper rolls, dropped into hot soup, mixed into cool salads, stir-fried with noodles and wrapped up with grilled morsels in lettuce. Vietnamese people enjoy large quantities of fresh herbs, and in fact, herbs are collectively known as “rau thom”, which means "fragrant vegetable."

5 Boutique hotels in Hanoi

Maison d’Hanoi Hanova Hotel
Located in great location on Hang Trong Street, the hotel was built on the typical Hanoi “tube house” with very narrow front but very deep inside like a tube. From the hotel, it takes you only a minute to walk to Hang Gai – the main shopping street in the old quarter and only 2 minutes to HoanKiemLake – where you can have the great walk and interact to local people doing exercise there in early morning.

The design of the Hotel is a modernized classic, referencing Hanoi French colonial past with its Asian Art Deco façade. Inside, the mix of French colonial and Asian accents continues, with colors and decorations evoking Hanoi’s long history.
The hotel is not very big which consist of 55 room, but you can feel the hospitality of the staff here right when you enter to the hotel. The restaurant for breakfast or daily meals is also great and each of the room of the hotels has it own authentic and unique style, that reflect very local identities.
The only low point of the hotel is some of the room they do not have window with the view as the typical style of the house in Hanoi Old Quarter.

Constructed on the original ancient house in Hanoi Old Quarter, the hotel has great combination of the traditional Hanoi Style as well as elegant style of French architecture and decoration. The ground floor still keep the original well of the house from hundred years ago with the nice garden and the space local people call “heavenly well” that allow the light and air ventilation to the hotel.
The location of the hotel is great too. Right in one of the typical street but not touristy of Hanoi Old Quarter, you can feel and experience the real daily life of Hanoi people in the Old Quarter. The hotel just only 2 minutes to walk to Dong Xuan – the biggest whole sales market in town and 7 minutes walk to Hoan Kiem Lake. The room is very comfortable and well equipped with very nice décor and nice bathroom. The staffs are friendly and helpful.
The other highlight of the hotel is very authentic and nice décor restaurant and bar. The breakfast is outstanding. The hotel also has very nice and comfortable spa on ground floor.

Vietnam travel tips: Travel essentials

Internet and email

Accessing the internet in Vietnam has become a great deal easier, though it is still monitored and controlled by a government fearful of this potentially subversive means of communication. Occasionally social networking sites like Facebook have been blocked.

There’s no problem about logging on in the major cities and tourist centres in Vietnam, where you’ll find dozens of internet cafés, while many hotels also offer internet access. Many upmarket and even some budget hotels offer wi-fi broadband access in your room – sometimes free to attract custom. Even remote regions are wired to the web these days, though the service may be slower and more expensive. Rates in the big cities currently stand at around 100đ per minute, with some places charging by the hour (about 6000đ).

Traveling to the North of Vietnam

Traveling to the North to explore the spectacular mountainous scene, the peaks appearing from a distance like islands jutting above a sea of cloud, the forests harbor many species of wild animals, butterflies and flower. You don’t miss the chance to view the breathtaking landscape of flower blossoming seasons unique of the Northeast region of Vietnam.

“”We don’t divide the seasons into spring, summer, autumn and winter. Rather, we think of time in terms of when flowers bloom”  a “professional” flower traveler said.

Buckwheat blossoming season ( Tam Giac Mach)

When autumn coming ,  farmers finish harvesting their crops on the terraced fields on Dong Van Stone Plateau in the northernmost province of Ha Giang, buckwheat plants start to blossom, turning the whole region into a charming pink painting. The flower is characterized by triangle-shaped pistils and this is why local people call buckwheat the “triangular flower”. Buckwheat flowers characteristically open in pinkish white and then turn light purplish. Nobody knows exactly how long the buckwheat plants have been in the region. However, the locals often use its grain-like seeds to make their food, such as cakes and to make a kind of tasty wine.

Hotels Hanoi in Vietnam

Y Lan Guesthouse

Hanoi is the world’s copycat capital when it comes to hotels, restaurants and tour operators, but there’s nowhere else like Y Lan Guesthouse, quite possibly the most authentic homestay in Vietnam. Behind a thick door off a busy boulevard in the French Quarter, the quiet, modest guesthouse faces an incredibly beautiful 150-year-old temple. The tiled temple, fronted by wooden columns and dangling orange lanterns, houses the ancestor altars of the family of Mrs Nguyen Thi Kim Oanh, the guesthouse owner. Bedroom number three, with louvered shutters, has a balcony overlooking the pretty fan-shaped tile tips of the temple. No-nonsense Mrs Oanh, who speaks French but little English, provides breakfast on the marble-topped table next to the family kitchen, and will take you inside the family temple if you ask.

This perfectly pitched Hanoi hotel combines Indochine elegance with a modern ambience. Ceiling-height padded silk headboards prop up wonderfully comfortable beds layered in white cottons in rooms with polished wooden floors, silk lamps, red Oriental trunks-turned-tables, and chairs upholstered in silver cotton and chenille. Its location on Hang Trong, just south of the Old Quarter, and just around the corner from one of the most popular shopping streets, Hang Gai, makes it the perfect base for shopaholics. After a day pounding the streets, head to the top-floor Le Royal Spa, for a soothing foot massage.

Nha Trang Tours

Heaven alike resorts, colorful coral reef underwater, pristine untouched beaches and harmonious combination of modern complexes and entertainment spots are unique features nowhere else Nha Trang can have. Though Nha Trang is having its name in lights due to the excellent scuba-diving and snorkeling, or palm-fringed beaches with clear blue water, they are not the only things the coastal Town can offer. Come to Nha Trang, one also has an opportunity to experience its own distinctive treaties. The golden pearl in Vietnamese tourism industry is also glad to be chosen a host place for many beauty competitions worldwide such as Miss Earth or Miss Universe.

Halong Bay Tours

Located approximately 3-hour northeast drive from Hanoi, Ha Long Bay is yet another must-see place in Vietnam. The Bay is proudly rewarded World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1994. Ha Long Bay is well-known for its magnificent grottos, white sand beaches, stunning limestone islets and turquoise water with strange-shaped rock formations. There may be no such experience more pleasant than waking up to the sound of waves and birds welcoming the new day or trying out kayaking trip to discover the less-known caves and hidden coves. Only in Ha Long Bay do tourists have a chance to visit fishing villages, understand the local ways of lives making.

Major international and regional events, especially Hue’s Festival 2016 and Asian Beach Games 2016, will be held at various tourist destinations. Another reason why Vietnam should be on your list in 2016 is about affordability. Although tourism has witnessed giant leap for the last decade, in Vietnam, prices are low compare to other countries. Take for instance, while having a decent vacation in Bali will cost you no less than $100 per person per day, a lovely two-day cruise tour in Halong Bay is only around $140. The deal gets even better if you are a backpacker: it only costs you around $20 a day to discover and enjoy the most “expensive” metropolises of Vietnam.
Below is a must-go list for you to start with:
Hanoi is a unique city where seemingly contradictory characteristics happen to exist in harmony. It is where the people embrace rich cultural legacy while thriving to modernity and affluence. It is where you can easily find thousand-year-old pagodas, colonial French-style buildings, and modern skyscrapers all located on the same street. And it is where you can find hip-hop dancers showcasing their skills with daring moves in the same park where old grandfathers are doing Taichi with a calm and relaxing demeanor.
When it comes to tourism, there are endless choices for a thrilling and satisfying excursion in Hanoi. In this city of more than one thousand year of historical continuity, you can virtually walk through time as you visit various tourist attractions and historical sites. Some of them date back to as far as the 1000s C.E., such as One Pillared Pagoda, Temple of Literature and National University. The Old Quarter or the Ancient Streets, which is regarded as Base Camp for many foreign tourists, is also a historical landmark as it was actually conveyed many centuries ago, encompassing streets that made and sold all sorts of commodities. The sights of modernity such as high-rise buildings with shopping, dinning and entertainment complexes, are, of course, visible everywhere in the city
